How are you feeling?
Are you tired and gaining weight, no matter what you eat or how much you exercise? Are you losing hair or feeling as though you’re in a mental fog? Are you cold all the time? You might have an undiagnosed thyroid problem. Even if you are already on thyroid hormone medication, your continuing low-thyroid symptoms mean that there is an UNDERLYING CAUSE that needs to be addressed with Functional Medicine tools and expertise.
What is the thyroid gland?
Though small, the thyroid gland is a powerful metabolism regulator. There are thyroid receptors in every cell in the body. A thyroid problem will change someone’s quality of life. In the shape of a butterfly and located at the base of the neck (just below the Adam’s apple), the thyroid produces two hormones (T3 and T4) that travel through blood vessels to every cell in the body. This small gland must function properly to have abundant energy; good weight control; healthy hair, skin, and nails; proper digestion; a strong cardiovascular system; and good brain function.
Is there help for my problem?
Yes, with 25 years of clinical experience and extensive post-doctoral training in Functional Medicine, Dr. Steven Roach knows that identifying the underlying causes of low-thyroid symptoms is crucial. These symptoms need to be addressed by more than just thyroid replacement hormone, to prevent further injury to the body and to healthy brain function. (See “Does Functional Medicine address hypothyroid symptoms differently” under Hypothyroidism.)
